Corona Virus Symptoms

Coronavirus disease (Covid19) is a newly discovered infectious disease. COVID19 belongs to the large family of the coronaviruses that cause illness in animals and humans. Most of the coronaviruses cause the respiratory infections such as MERS and SARS. COVID19 is a newly discovered respiratory disease that is spreading in humans very rapidly.

How it spreads?

This virus spreads through the droplets of the saliva and discharge from the nose. This disease can spread from person to person through droplets and discharge from nose. When the infected person sneezes, coughs and exhale the droplets, these droplets can land on any surface and other people can catch this disease by touching that surface and then touching their mouth, nose and eyes. People can also catch the disease by breathing the air where the infected droplets are present. According to the recent study published in New England Journal of Medicine, the coronavirus that cause COVID19 can live in the air and on the surfaces from several hours to several days that is why special precautionary measures should be taken to protect oneself and others from this virus.


The most common symptoms of the COVID19 are

  • Fever (101-102F)

  • Dry cough

  • Difficulty in breathing

  • Tiredness

Some people may show these symptoms as well

  • Runny nose

  • Nasal congestion

  • Body pains

  • Diarrhea

When to seek the Doctor’s Advice?

The mortality rate of COVID19 id 2 to 3 percent. This disease is a bit risky for older people and people having medical problems such as Blood Pressure, Diabetes and Heart diseases. Around 80% of the people who catch this virus do not need medical treatment and recovered. About 1 out of 6 fell seriously ill. People with high fever, cough and difficulty in breathing should seek treatment.


As there is no treatment for this disease, some precautionary measures can be taken to prevent the spread of this disease

  • Wash your hands frequently specially when come from outside. Wash hands at least for 20 seconds

  • Use hand sanitizers frequently

  • Disinfect the floors, door knobs and other surfaces

  • Cover your mouth when cough or sneeze (while coughing and Sneezing)

  • Keep a distance of about one meter to 3 feet from people (you don’t know who is infected)

  • Do not touch your mouth, eyes and nose if your hands are not clean

  • Be at home and isolate yourself if you feel you are not well

The infected person does not show any symptoms till 14 days. To avoid getting in contact with the virus, it is very important to self-quarantine yourself for the safety of your own self and your loved ones.

How many countries?

The WHO has declared coronavirus COVID-19 disease a pandemic and it is affecting about 198 countries and territories in the world. The origin of coronavirus COVID-19 was Wuhan city of China and now it has spread globally affecting almost all the countries in the world. After China it has hit Italy the most with more deaths than China.

Number of deaths in China as on 27th March, 2020: 3,292

Number of deaths in Italy as on 27th March, 2020: 8,215

China had the most number of infected people (81,340) in the world, but USA has crossed that number and total number of infected people are 85,906 and it is likely to increase in coming days.

Treatment and vaccine

There is no treatment and vaccine for COVID-19 as of now but many clinical trials and researches are ongoing. The only treatment that is available for now is to protect yourself by following the advice of medical experts and government and be aware of the fake news on internet. People with strong immune system are less likely to get affected with the virus that is why it is important to work on your immune system.
